I am very sorry to hear about your friend and her dog, but you know the saying there is no such a thing as a bad dog, just bad owners? I used to work at a shelter that took in mostly pit bulls, and you wouldnt believe some of the things I have seen, very heartbreaking what people do to these dogs!!! But make no mistake if they come from the right blood line and are raised properly these dogs can make the best pets, just as any other dog would!! I know dogs that arent pit bulls but would still go after a small dog. My aunt owns two pit bulls plus three other different breeds of dogs, and one of the pit bulls she rescued from the shelter i used to work at and the dog was used for fighting before, but she couldnt be a better pet (not all dogs that were fought like that end up being good dogs!) and her dog gets along well with everyone! She couldnt be sweeter. I really dont think it is fair to ban a certain breed of dog. I think it is really quite sad
