Roxi was the same, we just kept her in the harness around house and then after a while, also attached the leash for her to get used to it...
But what I have learned with my second, my boy Rocco is I started him out with a harness vest. It offers more support, which they like, and its softer. Then I built up to a reg harness. But I would def try a harness vest at first, worked for us!!
