When training - we just scoop her up, grab her paw and tapped the bell - and said "outside".
It was so successful - that we put another bell in the bedroom. The down side was that when she was younger - she'd hit the bell to go outside and play....and our bedroom was upstairs (ugh). Annoyed, after a couple weeks, I picked up the bell in the bedroom. Next, she discovered the springy door stop - and now paws at that when she needs to potty. At least she doesn't paw at it to play. These dogs are sooo smart!!!!

Aw - that is too cute! I've been trying the jingle bells for a few days now, but Darwin seems to be afriad of the bells b/c they are so loud. Maybe I will switch to the desk bell and see how he takes to it. How long did it take to "train" until your pup rang the bell on her own??
