My potty training book (House Training for Dummies) had the same method. I didn't like keeping Bailey caged up all the time, either. It was bad enough that we had to keep her in an ex-pen while at work. So, we blocked off our living room - making sure there were no things she could go behind and hide - laid down blankets and kept our eye on her the whole time.

If I had to do something - where we couldn't give her our undivided attention (i.e. cook dinner, dishes, brush teeth - anything), then she went in the crate. Hubby was there to help - and that was priceless.

Otherwise, I agreed with everything else in the book. We had Bailey trained in two months - using a service bell at the door.

I bet you're so excited - good luck - and congratulations!!!!
