I am not sure if I would call them rare, but there aren't nearly as many golden yorkies as your standard colors. And it doesn't happen too often from two standard color yorkies. However once you have two golden parents they will produce golden puppies. It is the same with chocolates and partis. They all orginated from two standard color yorkies.
I love golden and chocolate yorkies, I think they are so beautiful.
