Sorry to say my best potty training advise has to be done the minute you bring your new baby home. Before its little paws touch your floors, take it outside and wait...it may take a long while, but eventually it will go potty outside. At that very moment you "throw a party' with praise and/or treats...let your puppy know how happy and proud you are about it going potty outside. Then and only then is your puppy allowed in the house. I agree they should not be allowed to have free run of the house...confine in a crate when you are not actively playing with or holding. Be persistent and patient...they really are very smart and want nothing more then to please. Positive reinforcement, not punishment. Winston was trained to go outside to potty the minute I brought him home, seriously...no accidents. I was expecting the worst and thankfully got the best. Yes, I am so very proud of him and he knows it!!!
