Chewie had flaky skin earlier this summer - we were using oatmeal shampoo, and testing theories of frequent as well as infrequent bathing... Thankfully, he went for a vet visit, and the vet prescribed HUMILAC spray.

I'm sure that you could buy humilac online from a vet supply site or something like it. Our bottle was about $14.00 and has made a FANTASTIC difference (NO MORE FLAKES!).

Anyhow, the Humilac is used when Chewie takes a bath - we spray him down when his hair is damp. You can also use it as a rinse... We follow up with a few spritzes every day or so.

I think I should also mention that Chewie was prescribed Omega-3 oil during that same vet visit. We haven't had much luck with the Omega-3 though... It has made his stool very runny, and we are happy to report that his dry skin has cleared up with the use of Humilac on its own.

Sure hope that the flakes end for you soon!
