That is what us groomers do alright!
lol

Once your doggie is used to it, you will not need thje help.
If you have no one willing to help you, then do what groomers do when there are not enough hands to help out...get a "grooming noose" which is a quick release type of leash/collar setup used on grooming tables. You can hook it up to a cupboard pull or a hook on a utility room wall. It keeps your pet on the table and gives you more control.

I trimmed three of mine down for the summer...and I needed my daughter to help hold two of the three so I didn't mess up or accidently hurt one of them.

Oh...I still messed up...but I am happy to report that no one was hurt in the process.
