The pads of any dog is very soft and tender if they have not been walking for very long. I do a 3 miles walk every day, so when a friend ask if I'd watch her Schnauzer for a few days I ask her if he is use to walking and she said her husband walks him every day. Well his pads were comming off like a re-tread by the time we ended our very first walk with him. Walking has to be done gradually. Maybe 1/2 mile for a week, then a little further for a week and so on. The pads need to become calloused. Also be careful that the asphalt isn't too hot for tender pads.
