My pup's breeder gave her two diiferent rounds of vaccines, and the vet would not accept them? She only needs the rabies vaccine, and that is all. If I have too, all take her somewhere else!
Mostly they don't accept them because they don't make money off of them but there are a few medical reasons. First, how can a vet be sure that the breeder knew how to give the vaccine? Then there can be problems with storage temperatures. Some vaccines that you can buy are more dangerous than others (like CAV-1 sold by feed stores). How can a breeder get rid of the needles and any leftovers? But the main reason I agree with allowing a vet to do it is vaccines do cause reactions and the dog should wait at the vet's office for awhile after it is given to make sure everything is okay. You can't give emergency medical help to an animal if you don't have the right drugs or experience (although most vets don't have you wait which isn't the best idea).
