I gave Hot Rod a "security" toy, a chewing toy and sometimes a kong in his crate. He whined and cried the first night, then a little on the 2nd night and hardly any the 3rd night. It didn't take long. I did get up every 2 hours at first to let him out, then 3 hours. But I would just get him to do his business and right back he went in. Sometimes I don't think he was even awake doing his business.
You have to be strong and not give in. It will be hard but it will be better in the long run. We also got him an expen and that helped with tremendously. Good Luck.
