I found a product for matts that I really love!! It's called Cowboy Magic detangler. It comes in a tube and you can buy it where they sell horse products, like a pet and feed store. You put some of the gel on the matt and then you can work the matt out with your fingers and it doesn't hurt your pup. It is some kind of silicone type product so it is really slippery and just separates knots, even ones close to the skin. I use this before I brush Brooke, I used to have to cut out the bad matts!
