Expressing the anal glands is supposedly a very smelly, messy job. I'd have a groomer or vet do it mainly because a yorkie's anal opening is so tiny, most human fingers are too big and will hurt them. Usually, the substance that is built up the glands is eliminated when the dog poops. Sometimes, the glands get clogged and have be expressed manually. When the glands are full, it becomes uncomfortable to the doggie andthe only thing they know to do is scoot their butt across the floor to make it feel better. Previous post could be right too. There may be something stuck in the anal area causing it to itch or cause discomfort. It could be a number of things. I'd say if it doesnt stop after a day, call the vet and see what they'd like you to do. |
