Nicole I had Leo and Dante done at 5 months. I asked my vet the same question that you asked here and It had something to do with both of their testes being dropped. Plus they were both at really good weights. As for the leg lifting there is no guarantee it won't happen. Both my boys lift but they also look to make sure they don't go off the pad. And from some posts I have read on here some neutered still end up humping either another dog or a favorite toy.
