Having once bought a dog from a breeder than didn't know what she was doing, I will never do this again. You might save a few bucks up front, but you are much more likely to get a dog with a heredity disease that won't show up until the age of 2 when you are thoroughly in love with the dog. The pain and suffering that your dog will go through because of poor breeding is heartbreaking. Find the best breeder you can; find one who goes by the rules set forth by the YTCA, and your chances of finding a healthy pet will greatly increase.

In addition, many of the ads especially in free newspapers, are scams, and will often include an e-mail address, and expect you to pay through wiring money. Never wire money to pay for a pet, you won't see your money again or your pet.
