I lived through Betsy in Houma, where the eye passed directly over us. I lived through Juan. I lived through Camille in New Orleans. I've lived through many others.
After Juan, I promised I would never stay for another and I haven't. Our coastline has changed and we cannot handle storms as we did in the past. Our barrier islands are almost non-existent. Hopefully Congress will continue to help Louisiana's withering coastline as it does serve a valuable purpose -- especially in the oil and gas industry (most especially because of our dependence of foreign oil).
