First off - Welcome to YT!

Is the yorkie with the hair matting problem a puppy still? If so, puppies can go through a stage of their puppy coat matting, and you will just have to be patient waiting for the adult coat. If the dog isn't a puppy and the hair matting is as bad as you say, I don't think they are grooming him daily at home.

Before washing you could try using cornstarch to remove the knots.
