The squirt of water is a good idea, but I suspect kitty will put puppy in its place quickly. Just give kitty an escape route and a place up high to get to when the need for an escape arises. I have 4 cats. The dogs pretty much stay on the main level, gated in the living room. The rest of the house belongs to the cats. Except at night, my bed is open to all who can find a place to curl up!
