Since I have learned about these auctions, it has obsessed my every thought. How can we save these dogs? Why can't we pass a law that pet stores can no longer sell actual pets? That way the only way to get a dog is from a REPUTABLE breeder or at the Humane Society or Rescue Organizations. I have a puppy mill girl I bought from a breeder when she was 5 yrs old. I didn't realize it was a puppy mill til I got there, and the woman handed her to me and she shook for 45 minutes while I held her. She finally got the nerve to look up at me and I got one lick on the nose. I burst into tears and immediatly went to the bank for the $500. I was traumatized to have to put her back in the cage while I ran to the bank. That was 4 years ago, and when I think of what would have become of her had I not bought her all I do is cry. She couldn't drink water from a bowl, climb puppy steps or even jump up on the couch. To this day she just closes her eyes and leaps, only sometimes successfully. She wouldn't let you hold her, and I will never forget the first time she actually laid her head down on my hand. I didn't even breathe for fear of scaring her. Day by day she trusts a little more, but it is soooooo slow going. I want to buy every older dog at every dog auction so they don't take them out back and shoot them if they don't sell. How can we fix this. This is agonizing...
