The question of "square" was raised and is legitimate. Though it is not in the official standard, it is discussed in the YTCA's publication,
Illustrated Discussion of the Yorkshire Terrier, which reads
"The Yorkshire Terrier is a sound, well balanced, compact, neat, square appearing dog though there is little or nothing specific in our standard describing the length of the neck, type, placement, carriage of , etc."
