I'm not sure why, but he's never chewed on the shower curtain liner. I try to keep the edges of it on the outside of the exercise pen to he can't get to them. When I first tried this I used one of those thick outdoor patio tableclothes. He did chew on that and made a HUGE mess.
If you decide to get an exercise pen check out the baby departments. I priced them and found one at Toys R Us for about $20 cheaper than PetSmart and it was basically the same pen.
