I am in Ontario as well. Ummm, let's see. I think my boy was around 4 months old when i started seeing his color change. It happened so quick. About the grooming part. I kept mine in a puppy cut, so i was getting him groomed every 4-5 weeks. His nails were trimmed trimmed more often. He will soon be 11 months old, i would like to grow out his hair so right now he is a bit shaggy. Actually, i need to book an appointment to get his nails cut, private areas trimmed, and all the necessary stuff. So, for now i'm gonna try the long hair on him.
