Max has free roam of the house when we are home. If we're gone to work, we keep him in the kitchen with a baby gate. If it's a short run out, we close the bedroom door and leave him out. He loves to look out the window so we asume he spends that time in his favorite spot. He sleeps with us at night and sometimes, he'll sneak off to his bed which is near the bay window he loves to look out of.
