He had a bacterial infection in his GI tract of unknown origin. Could have picked it up at the dog park or on a walk, or could have just built up over time (the emergency vet said that this is more prevalent in small dogs). But he got dehydrated because he simply could not keep even a little water down, and since they're so tiny they can get dehydrated pretty fast. He was on the fence, but I chose to leave him for IV fluids to be safe.
