Petzlife is great, but I also use an enzyme-based toothpaste. A couple of tips I learned from fellow YTers. A cat toothbrush is almost the perfect size to use. I also started out using gauze wrapped around my finger and rubbing it all over his teeth. He seems to tolerate that much better.

It's very important though. I hear too many stories of yorkies with dental issues and problems with surgical complications and/or having to have most of their teeth removed and being very sick.

Gizmo has a problem with stains on his teeth that nothing can seem to remove. We think that it may have been caused by a medicine he either took as a puppy or maybe one his mother took during her pregnancy. His teeth and gums are healthy (according to the vet). They just don't look very nice. We have to be careful to keep up his teeth-cleaning because it's hard to tell if they are clean sometimes.

Good luck. I like the idea of allowing him to chew on or play with the toothbrush. I think that's a great idea too.
