First of all, I don't know if a missed it, but it will help to know, the type of bussiness and city, but here are a few suggestions:
-A dance contest, to participate you need to pay a small fee.
-Walkathon, each participant can get a sponsor , the same can be done with the dance contest.
-You can also check local restaurants to sponsor by donating food, that can be sold at the event, even fast food restaurants can donate gifts certificates, (to be used as prize)
-Raffle a donated item (you can buy the roll of tickets at Party City)
Is it going to be a family event, or only for employees?
For family events you can have a T Shirt painting contest, that always work for the kids,(young and old)
-Karaoke contest, fun and everybody likes it.
-Bounce houses , I think thats how they are called, those big inflatable houses used for children parties, there are ones that have a slide, or the one that is like mountain climbing , you can sell tickets for that too.When local businesses are involved and know that you have a good cause they usually give you better prices on rental.
