I can't believe that they would hold him back just because of one subject, especially when he did so well in the others. I think that I would go to the school and talk to the counselor there. Especially with your son's Autism and ADHD, they have to give him special consideration. Call an ARD meeting and have them make up a new IEP. Is he going to go to summer school?
