Personally, I think you would love Texas. I do. I lived in Austin for many years and in east Texas about an hour out of Houston in the Sam Houston National Forest. Texas is wonderful. I miss it tremendously.
ETA: Some of the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen were in Texas.
