My babies do this from time to time, it is VERY scary.

The last time my yorkie poo did this I rushed him to the vet and they said there was no swelling or trachea issues, so it was most likely allergies.

They can have sneezing attacks where they can't catch their breath.

She said next time it happens to hold him gently, take him in a cool or air conditioned room and talk softly to him to help him relax and it should subside.

I'm not sure if this is what's happening to your baby, but it sounds similar to my furbabies situation and I wanted to share.
