I'm so sorry to read that your other baby might have liver issues...

I agree that I would *not* jump into more testing or more surgery for him at this point. With a BAT of 51 and no symptoms whatsoever, this is what I would do...
I would put my dog on the same food as Ruthie and maybe one of the supplements like Denosyl or Denamarin, and do a BAT in 30 days. If it's normal, great news!! If it's still elevated, you're probably dealing with MVD.
Make sure that before the next BAT, you do not give any meds or flea/heartworm stuff within two weeks of it, so that those things can't throw off the numbers.
This way, you will have a much better idea of what's going on...
