Oh I see. Yup, I got one of those adjustable "Choke Free" you've described too and the thing I don't like about those is that the material is so thin. Imagine your pulling and those thin materials are going into your skin, I bet that just hurts! Especially the chest area. Also the middle/cheat area is adjustable and I can see how one can get freed from it.
But the ChokeFree brand name is not adjustable and made out of leather so its comfortable and is very secure.
Also, the puppia works well over clothes, since the neck area isn't adjustable, I found that its more secure when the furbutts are wearing a sweater or a hoodie.
