  You are correct. That is a big selling point..stating that the dog has papers. Most of the time you are asked to pay more because of this.  
I am just wondering how do you prove that your dog's parents are AKC registered? If let's say the breeder / seller is not reacheable? Just curious. I think that when AKC ever drops it's registry standards...it will all go to the dogs
