An "xpen" is just an exercise pen.. basically a play pen for dogs. It is much much much better to keep them confined while you are gone. Who knows what kind of trouble they can get into - they can pee/poop everywhere, tear up your things, and even get hurt. We got a pen because we didn't like the idea of crating -- I am gone a lot for school so the pen just worked better for us. Franklin has a potty pad, food and water, and his bed. He loves it in there.
