I'm sorry that you lost your job because you were more concerned with doing a good job versus a half-a$$ one. I've had to have 2 different cleaning companies come back and clean a 2nd time because some of the things that were supposed to be done were not. One time, the workers were sick and the owner came out to clean...hate to say it, it was not near as good a job as her workers did when they came out!
Go for it! If I spend money on something, I want my value for that money. If you are really conscientious about doing a good job in someones house, you sound like your are, then you shouldn't have any trouble getting clients.
