I used to be "not a dog person". We always had large dogs growing up, my dad would bring home every stray he came upon, which in theory is nice, but these dogs were never very nice and he didn't have the time or the patience to train them. Me being a small child at the time, I had no idea that dogs even could be trained and I got bitten.... alot So I grew up thinking I really didn't like dogs. Then I started watching animal planet quite a bit and there are alot of dog training shows on there and I thought, " I think I could handle a smaller dog if it were trained properly". So, since my children are pretty much grown now (youngest is 14 and has no desire to hang with mom ) I was starting to get "empty nest syndrome" and I started doing research on different breeds and ended up with a yorkie. He was a puppy when I got him, I trained him to do everything myself, which was very satisfying, and I dont' know what I would do without him now. I also find that I am alot more tolerant of larger dogs as well.

The moral of the story is... just because some one is "not a dog person" doesn't mean they don't like dogs, maybe they just haven't had the right experience with one yet.
