The first 3 days she was in a LOT of pain, like the pain meds wore off before we could give her more. The next 3 days were less and after the 7 days of the meds were gone she was OK. The first few days, although she was in pain, were pretty easy because she couldn't really move around. She had casts on. Once she figured out how to walk in the casts we had to be careful because she would follow us from room to room, try to go up the stairs... so we crated her and put her in a pen that we moved from room to room. She has the loudest SCREAM when she is confined and does not want to be. It's improved with some training, and of course she sleeps in her crate when SHE wants to, but for sanity's sake my husband could NOT take her screaming while he was trying to work all day, so at some point (week 2?) we had to get her a sedative. We only used it a couple times. Once she got a little stronger she was allowed to go for very short walks and those would wear her out. We got creative - took her for rides in the car, rides in her stroller, etc. to keep her occupied. Bully sticks helped a lot too! I think by her 4th week SHE thought she was back to normal. She was jumping UP on couches - I mean even confining her to her pen meant she would jump up over and over trying to get out, spinning for attention. Even if we kept her off the couches she would RUN from room to room. The best we could do was keep her in a room with us with the door closed. You just have to do your best. The risk is that they will re-injure it, but she had no groove before and all of the sudden it was like she realized her legs work now! At the point that she realized that there was no stopping her!
