It is pretty common for momma dogs to pant when nursing, especially the first few days after delivery. Since her pups are 10 days old I would watch her closely for signs of eclampsia. When the calcium levels get low that can trigger panting. Are you giving her a calcium supplement? Your momma is small and the puppies are putting a great demand on her body. It is very important that she eats 4 meals a day, the last being right before bedtime. I don't know why she is not drinking much. Maybe you are just not seeing her get a drink. Be sure to monitor her temperature too. With eclampsia they start running a high temperature. Since the pups are 10 days old they should be able to start regulating their own body temperature in just a few days. You might want to make it a little cooler in the room, say around 76 degrees. If you still have concerns about the momma then a trip to the vet might be in order. I wish you the best with your momma and her babies. |
