My toy poodle (pet store puppy) had both his hind knees operated on at separate times by an orthopaedic vet. He had the surgeries when he was around a year and again about two years. His right knee was the worst he would hold it up and was in obvious pain He did very well and has not limped for years now - he is 7 Yrs old I think the follow up care is very important to their recovery. One thing I was told to do and I did was to buy a child's swimming pool and encourage him to swim and I believe that helped a lot in his recovery. Now that he is older I also five him Cosequin every day (glucosamine) for his joints.
