My Yorkie would go crazy for chicken jerky. It didn't seem very soft, so put a piece in water and left it for a long time. It never softened !! Same thing with Greenies, they never softened, I even tried simmering the Greenie and it never got soluble. I decided it they were not water soluble, they would never digest so I stopped all treats like that. Our vet says to not even give her rawhide. I was giving her the little MilkBone biscuits that look like sausages.She begged for them whenever she passed the dog food cabinet. Now we are down to 2 per day. She was having terrible slimey, stinky diarrhea.This was happening with too many MilkBone treats and the expensive Eagle Pack Holistic and Innova Holistic canned dog food. Now she is doing great on home cooked food consisting of brown rice mixed with chicken or lean beef and vegetables. I think the canned food may have been too rich or had too many additives. I do put out a small portion of dry kibble to "snack" on, but she's not too keen on that. I'm also giving her PetTab vitamins. My Westie took those and lived to be 15. |
