Continental Kennel Club is an alternative registry that does have looser rules than AKC. There are, however, both high and low quality dogs in both registries. Registry alone does not guarantee a better dog or better breeder but the best ones will be AKC and all show dogs will be either AKC or Canadian Kennel Club. Many AKC dogs have been registered with CKC (Continental) due to the breeder's suspension by AKC. If you look in the breeders' forum, you'll see the AKC suspension list. Most breeders have been suspended due to lack of adequate record keeping , though some have committed worse offenses. As far as registering puppies go, CKC (Continental) will register the litter by phone if the parents are already registered with them. This is really not much different than AKC doing the same thing on-line. If all you're looking for is a pet, you may find what you're looking for with either registry as long as you use the same criteria in selecting a breeder. There are both good and bad breeders associated with both registries. If you are looking for a breeding dog, I'd say go with an AKC one but still do your research in finding a breeder.
