I think CKC could be a good alternate for people who aren't going to breed and just want papers... It's cheaper. Aslong as you know your dog is purebred, it shouldn't matter. IMO

The "limited registry" is used by good breeders, who believe that they are responsible for all dogs that their dogs produce; and this includes the offspring of those dogs. They are protecting the dogs from becoming breeding machines. Some people have gotten around this by breeding the dogs anyway, and although the puppies wouldn't be eligible for AKC membership they just register them with another registry. This is stealing I believe, when a breeders has worked for years to develop a healthy beautiful dog, and then someone comes around and essentially steals the "patent". When you buy a product you do not have the right to reproduce the product and sell it as your own invention. This is one of the ways, I believe, that enables you to select a good breeder, because bad breeders don't really care what happens to the pups after leaving the premises. By the way, some breeders are turning away from limited registration and spaying the dogs before they leave home.
