There is the legitimate Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) that is very much like the American Kennel Club (AKC). However it is my opinion, the Continental Kennel Club (CKC) came about as way for breeders to dupe uneducated buyers into believing these "registered" dogs had more value than other dogs. The Continental Kennel Club, I believe, took initials that would fool even more educated buyers who were familiar with the legitimate Canadian club. Don't believe that breeders left the AKC because it charges too much, you can register a dog for about $25.00, sometimes less, and an AKC dog will sell for much much more that a CKC dog. The reasons they left the AKC are usually because they've broken the rules of the AKC, and these rules include such things as proper care of the dogs, and proof of dog's lineage. However, some breeders never left, they were never eligible to join in the first place, and so these "alternative" registries came about. Good for you for doing your homework.
