That is all these are used for. They have the downstairs for the most part to run around in.
Just don't use the crate for punishment as they will not want to be there anymore after that. A crate should be their safe place to go. i have the little soft airline sherpa crates around and they stay open all day. My girls nap in those during the day or in their little chairs or beds.
