Hi welcome to Yorkitalk, Nutri-Cal is usually given to treat hypoglycemia. Nutri-Cal contains mostly sugar with a miniscule amount of vitamins thrown in to make it sound better. It's the same thing as Karo syrup except for the tiny amount of vitamins. Dogs under three pounds often suffer from hypoglycemia. Hypoglycemia is common in puppies because they have not fully developed the ability to regulate their blood glucose concentration and have a high requirement for glucose. Stress, cold, malnutrition, and intestinal parasites are problems that may precipitate a bout of juvenile hypoglycemia. Toy breed dogs less than three months of age are most commonly affected. Symptoms include drowsiness, shivering, collapsing, disorientation, seizures, listlessness, depression, muscle weakness, white gums, and tremors. Not all the symptoms will necessary be shown. For more information see: Hypoglycemia Symptoms and Treatment
