Sounds like the puppy is doing really well in his new home and that's great! Try your best to enjoy the 'puppy phase' as you may find that you miss it when it's over. What about getting an ex-pen for him to play around in so that you don't have to worry about him 24/7? I didn't give my dogs free run of the house for awhile after I got them - not until they could be 'trusted' . You could set up the pen in your living room with toys, chews, etc. in it so he can occupy himself while you go about doing your own thing. Lots of people have these for when they are home but can't necessarily watch the puppy's every move. The pen is less confining than a crate, and you will have some of your freedom back.

Keep in mind, puppies sleep a great deal during the day, so chances are when you step out for a bit, he's sound asleep. It's good for him to get used to you not being there all the time. Don't feel guilty!!!
