She is doing so well on her medication and low protein diet that we are just going to monitor her for a while and do blood work every couple months to keep an eye on things. She's 2 and had never shown any 'major' symptoms (definitely nothing neurological) and is very happy right now. So, for now, we are opting to put off surgery for as long as possible — especially since she is so small and the surgery is so risky.
