If you have food in your stomach when you're going under, there is a possibility that during surgery you can throw up, & it there's food in your stomach it goes into your lungs & you can get a deadly disease called ARDS (Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome). So I think that's why they don't want food in your bbys stomach, just in case she vomits & then gets food stuck in her lungs
