I believe they don't allow food because it is safer when they go under anaesthesia for them to have an empty stomach. They do this for humans too. If you have food in your stomach when you're going under, there is a possibility that during surgery you can throw up, & it there's food in your stomach it goes into your lungs & you can get a deadly disease called ARDS (Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome). So I think that's why they don't want food in your bbys stomach, just in case she vomits & then gets food stuck in her lungs
