It depends on how short you want them to be and how much you are willing to do yourself. Mine could go 8 weeks but I take them every 4-5. (We like our groomer!) I trim pads and nails and faces in between. If Loki gets too long in the summer he gets hot. You still have to brush under their legs to keep the mats down, especially when they wear harnesses. I have their bellies shaved down to try to prevent this, but you still have to brush a little bit. Then I wash faces/clean eyes/fix Sammy's topknot every day. Oh, they also get baths every week because they still get stinky and crusty, but it takes 5 minutes to blow dry them!
In the summer you can just let them run around and air dry which is even better!
