Hello everyone...whew! I had quite the scare tonight.
I gave Cinderella a treat after she went pee on the puppy pad. The treat-Dried Bison Heart. She gagged a few times, and then suddenly, she let out a big whine and started going in circles. I gave her a syringe of water, hoping she could swallow whatever was in her throat, but it didn't work. I then tried giving her small pieces of carrot, but she she refused to eat. That's when I got worried because Cinderella never turns down an opportunity to eat. I even tried ringing the doorbell so I could see if she would forget about what's bothering her, or at least clear her throat if she barked. But she couldn't bark!
She wasn't choking and still able to breathe, but she just looked uncomfortable. Obviously something was wrong.
I drove her to the emergency vet, and to make a long story short, the x-rays showed that Cinderella did not have anything blocking her passage way. But apparently her trachea was very tight, and narrow. When the doctor showed me the xray of her mouth and throat, her trachea just showed up as a thin line.
The doctor said that something these small breeds can have a narrowed trachea due to warm weather....? Anyone heard of this?
I have a feeling that Cinderella's trachea has always been like this though because we definitely have not had any warm weather yet. Then again, I guess it could be triggered by anything or even nothing. But regardless, seeing how small her trachea is really opened my eyes in regards to the size of treats I will give her in the future.
She received an injection to open up her trachea, and help her breathe better, along with some mild pain killer. She is resting comfortably now. I must say, it weird to see her not going bonkers, because she is quite the crazy nutcase!
Thanks for your time everyone
